Our time is up, and today was our last opportunity for an Alpine walk. We started early, catching the first ferry out of Pertisau back to Maurach followed by the cable car up to the Rofanseilbahn.
Our challenge was a recommended walk to Dalfaz Alm with the added bonus of a cafe at the end. Although fairly flat, the rocky path was challenging in places but the views were stunning and well worth the effort. Unexpectedly we caught a glimpse of snow on the high peaks towards Innsbruck.
En route, there was a small clearing where walkers built small cairns, we took a moment to build our own, and remember Emma. As you can see our building skills are superb.
Finally, the bikes came out of the car and we cycled around the lake to Achenkirk. It was quite a feat, we’d not eaten since breakfast and the cycle path was not as flat as we thought. There may have been some pushing of a bike, we’ll leave you guess whose. Our bikes feel very old fashioned when cycling in Europe and it does make us wonder if we ought to upgrade to e-bikes. We don’t cycle much at home and our legs pay for it when abroad.
Fortified by Apfelstreusel at Achenkirk, we tried to cycle all the way back to Pertisau but Kim’s legs refused and we caught the ferry back from Seekapelle. We hadn’t seen the lake this busy with swimmers, windsurfers and sailboats all having fun.
This is our last night in Pertisau and we will miss the quiet luxury of our hotel and glorious food. It has been a fantastic place to stay and there are plenty of walks unexplored so we’d consider coming back,
Snow usually arrives in Achensee at the end of November although last year it arrived in September, in a few weeks time everything will look very different, as trail walkers leave making room for winter sports.
